Introduction

MightySignal Rankings is designed to allow our users to see data on every chart they care about in a single, unified view.

A chart is a group of rankings for a specific combination of the following parameters: platform, country, category, ranking type.  For example - Android, US, Overall, Paid is a chart. In total, we are tracking 40,000 different charts. The Newcomers and Trending views allow you to filter data from the charts you care about. The Charts view allows you to view the rankings for a specific chart.

How to use the product

Newcomers

The newcomers view shows apps that have appeared in a specific top chart for the first time, indicating a jump in rankings. By default, the newcomers table is sorted by apps that have most recently entered a chart.

Filters:

  • Platform: All, iOS, Android
  • Chart: Free, Paid, Grossing
  • Max Rank: Limits the highest rank of an app for its first appearance on a specific chart.  For example, if you set this filter to 100, the table will only show apps that were rank 100 or higher on a specific chart when they first appeared on that chart.
  • Category: App store categories such as Overall, Games, Social, etc.
  • Country: App store countries

Trending

Trending shows the apps that make dramatic changes in the app store rankings. The trending view sorts apps by weekly/monthly change to quickly surface apps that make the biggest changes in rank. By default, the tables are sorted by apps that have made the largest jump in the past week. The ability to reverse the sorting order will also show the apps that have made the biggest drop in rankings.

Filters:

  • Platform: All, iOS, Android
  • Chart: Free, Paid, Grossing
  • Max Rank: Limits the highest current rank of an app.  For example, if you set this filter to 100, the table will only show apps that are currently rank 100 or higher on that specific chart..
  • Category: App store categories such as Overall, Games, Social, etc.
  • Country: App store countries

Charts

Provides the raw rankings for each of the top charts for the past day. This view is useful if you want to find the apps at the top of each chart, rather than finding apps by ranking change.

Notes

Country and Category Filters

The category and country options each have either an Apple or Android icon next to it.  This indicates which store that option belongs to. If you select a filter corresponding to just one of the platform stores and not the other, it will naturally filter out the other platform.  For example, the following query will return no results because it’s setting the platform to iOS but only wants to see charts in the Android Social category:

Combining Filters

When adding filters, the OR operator is applied to filters within the same parameter.  AND operators are applied to filters in different parameters.

Some examples:

This will filter for apps that first entered an Android chart with the Overall Category in the United States. (Note the “Category: Overall - iOS” filter has no effect since the platform Android filter is applied)

This filter will show app movement in iOS and Android charts for the Social Networking and Music categories in the United States, and only for apps whose current rank is 10 or greater.
